National Day of Prayer

with 20 comments

Thursday, May 6, in the U.S. we celebrate The National Day of Prayer. (See the companion thoughts on Heartlight.org). I am committing myself to pray for our nation, for other nations in the world where we have Compassion International Children we sponsor, for places I’m going on mission trips this summer, and places where we have mission efforts going on as a church family. I am also committed to praying for those believers who are persecuted and those groups who are under oppression from their government or the anarchy in their streets or their lack of water, food, and proper medicines. I will also pray for those impacted by the flooding in the U.S..

For whom and for what will you pray today? Why not add to the list below and share your prayers. And please remember, this is not a time to bash anyone or any group politically, but a time to offer to God our deepest concerns and greatest hopes that His Kingdom will come to our world, through us, in our time, in ways that unite the world, break down the barriers, and bring Jesus glory.

Thanks to the folks at worshiphousemedia.com for the clip. If you use it, please purchase from them!

And I’d love to see what you are praying for in the comments section below.

  1. Today I’m praying for two boys who are precious that I can’t mention by name and I’m praying for Doreen in Uganda, Estarlin in the Dominican Republic, and for Manasseh in Tanzania — each of whose pictures are on my refrigerator and whose lives are on my heart.

  2. Today I am praying for Cinthia in Honduras, a precious girl whom we support. I am praying also for God to strengthen the faith of our children & grandchildren; for our government leaders & the leaders of other nations worldwide that they will seek peace; and for our missionaries who dedicate their lives to spreading God’s word. I thank God for the freedom we have in Christ Jesus, our Lord, & praise Him for His mercy & grace. I thank Him for Phil, Donna & their family who allow God to work in their lives & are such an inspiration to all who know them. In Christ we live, Amen.

  4. Dear Heavenly Father
Your Word is True and Right.
You rule the world and all that’s within.
The winds obey You, hail, sleet, and snow obey You.
You have also given us Divine Authority over the earth.
You have also given us the earth to rule and reign.
We ask you dear Father that you minimize the damage that is expected upon the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.
We are standing in the gap for your Creation this moment.
It is written that when two or more are gathered, you are in the midst.
As prayers have reached your Throne about hurricanes, fires, earthquakes, tornados and other disasters, You, our God,
have been faithful and unexplainable in intervening during these disasters.
Dear Heavenly Father, we ask that you again send might warring angels to stop, redirect and minimize the potential harm from this oil rig explosion and the oil that will be arriving on the coast.
The seas are yours Lord and all that is within them.
It is written in Scripture that “Everything that has breath, praise the Lord.”
We ask that you protect in a Divine way, ALL the animals and sea life and the very algae and creatures needed for the seas to operate in the manner you had purposed for them.
Please protect those involved on the sea, on the coast and planners for impending doom.
We are relying on You heavenly Father to move Heaven upon Earth to resolve what could be years of damage.
We praise you and thank you for keeping the shores free of deadly debris, dead animals and damaged creation. We ask that you remove any deadly vapors that would cause severe distress to animals, man and the earth itself. This oil came from Your Earth, and we pray that that You would eradicate any toxicities that would cause illness or death.
We thank you that You, our God, can have this spill assimilate miraculously and unexplainably so that You, our Heavenly Father, can be glorified.
We thank you Lord that NOTHING is impossible for Thee.
We thank you that as in Hurricane Dennis in 2005, you showed yourself Mighty and True to Sandestin by protecting our area from catastrophe when the winds and seas were out of control- and we ask that Your Glorious Riches of helping us in our times of need be shown along the Gulf Coast again, and people will say, “Surely there is a God.”
We ask you be with the families who lost loved ones on that oil rig and please heal and revive those who are hospitalized and in trauma
due to the severity of that accident.
God BLESS our rescue workers and their families and our military involved in this situation.
We Pray this in Jesus Name, Amen.

  6. Today, Heavenly Father, I pray your blessings upon the hungry in this nation. We are sending billions of dollars to other countries for disaster relief, and oh God, we need disaster relief in this country! Please watch over my brothers and sisters in Christ who don’t have as much as I do. Protect those who sleep in parks and doorways.
Also, Dear Father, I pray for the lost. I ask for your love, mercy and grace to be revealed in a real and mighty way-a way that speaks of not being able to look away.
Dear Father, there is hurting and despair all over the globe-You are in control. I pray that those of us who understand in part will be able to have peace because we know that You ARE in control. We may not understand all that you do, but we are grateful that we are yours, and therefore, we knoe and believe that all will work out for our good and your glory.
So, last, but not least, Dear Father, I pray for Jesus’coming for us. May it be soon. We are not afraid, and we are ready for Him to come! Come, Lord Jesus-please come!!
In His precious Name I pray-Amen!

  7. I am praying today for my nineteen year old daughter who suffers from an eating disorder, anorexia. She has been hospitalized in 2007 for four months and was in recovery and maintained it for one year. Last year she was hospitalized briefly in the summer and she is now at her lowest weight ever and facing another hospitalization. It is a dreadful disease that kills 20 percent of those with it. I ma her main support person and I just pray daily that someone comes into her life that can help her out of this. As in addictions, you have to want help and you need to feel better about youself. Often, I feel she is a sick soul and if there could be someone who can somehow reach that part of her she could reach out for life. She does not believe in prayer and anything religious but I do and pray I do for her. I am also praying for my husband who has been out of work for almost two years and is growing weary. I also am not working as I have been the support for my daughter and I hope to find something also. I also pray for my inlaws as my father-in-law is struggling with Alzheimers and is diffcult on his wife and my husband. I would appreciate anyone’s prayers for me and for my family. Thank you!

  8. Gracious Father,
I add my prayer to these of my Brothers & Sisters, praising You for Your Glory and matchless mercy! I praise You for Jesus, our Mediator, Who reconciles humanity to You for Your honor and glory, Father!
Thank You for Your Spirit Who works in us to transform us into the character of Jesus and live according to Your good will!
Father, today we are requesting Your grace on the authorities of the lands – those who are in a position of authority over others, from the country leaders to the city leaders. Touch their hearts with compassion and mercy, Father, and their minds with Your wisdom. Grant, Father, that these leaders are filled with the desire to be filled and led by Your Spirit as they are ladened with the task of leading a country or state or city.
Father, we also pray for all those who have not received Your Spirit, who do not know Your Son as Savior. Father, guide us to them, whether our neighbor at the next desk or the farmer in the country on the other side of the world. Fill us with Your compassion for them, Father, reminding us that You will that all are saved and reconciled to You!
Forgive us where we fail to heed the urging of Your Spirit to act as opportunities arise. Grant us Your eyes, Your ears, Your heart that we may be so compelled to act as we know Jesus would to the need of humanity for You.
Thank You, Father, for so much more than I can list here at this time! Especially for the opportunity to come to You in prayer such as these being offered!
In the Sweet & Precious Name of Jesus…

  9. I am praying that the Body of Christ across our world will remember Paul’s words to Timothy about prayer for all people, because God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance and a knowledge of the truth. Jesus died for the sins of the world because God loves us and wants us to be saved. So my prayer is that we can be the loaves and fishes in God’s hand that will be able to reach all people everywhere with the Good News. Scripture tells us that not until then will Jesus come.

  10. Oh heavenly Father,
I pray against the Dark Principalities that want to tear the very fabric of our nation apart. Lord, we are living in perilous times. Only your guiding light can show us the way out. We pray for our Muslims bothers that they see the true God is you.
We pray for the youth of this nation that you will open their hearts to your truth.
Lord, we pray for the leadership of this nation that their decisions are made in accordance with you.
Lord we pray for a total revail in this nation. This nation was founded on Godly principles and we need to put god back into our nation.
We ask humbly in your Lord’s name Amen

  12. This is the day that Yahweh has made…Let Us Rejoice and be glad in it! As we continue to press ahead, let us be mindful to keep the most important things first. Prayer and supplication with Thanksgiving is a wonderful form of worship. We are the Righteousness of God..We are a peculiar people. With love and admiration, I agree with my Dearest Suzy. The Scriptures has said, “Where two or three are gathered together in my name, touching and agreeing on anything, I will be in the midst.” Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace..Thank you for answering our prayers. You love us so very much, and we are seeking your face today as always. We know you for who you are. We are confident, reassured by faith you will deliver what you have promised. We thank you for being Messiah, for creating us in your image and likeness. Thank you for being a conqueror, a brave warrior and a loving King. We honor your presence and crown you Lord of All. Thank you for coming to see about your people. Thank you for being Elohim. Holy Spirit, Wisdom and Truth thank you for being available to fill us with your love, peace and joy as we anxiously await your manifestation. All Hail the Omnipotent One! In The Magnificient Name of Yeshua We Pray~ Amen.

  13. I am praying for all of God’s people that he created in his image. I’m praying that we can more more like him and that we learn to love one another as Christ loves each one of us. I am praying for Christ’s church and my brothers and sisters at my local congregation. I’m also praying for the Agape Foster Care group that is working hard to place children in christian homes. I pray for my country, U.S.A., and our President and his family. I’m also praying for my biological sisters; especially my youngest sister who has a problem with drink; that she will seek the Lord and return to him. I pray for my co-worker Hanh Nguyen, that as I am about to retire, she will find a department to work in where there is peace. I also pray for those who dispitefully use others that their hearts will open to God and love will flow out. It is in Christ’s name that I pray, Amen.
