A Fun Night of Song

without comments

Saturday night, I will be hosting a night of song with two old friends from ACU, Chris and Jan Harris. They will be performing Saturday evening, October 17, from 7:30-9:00 in the Southern Hills Chapel (3666 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, TX 79605). Chris and Jan are doing a tour singing together and sharing stories and songs about love and faith. Below the image, you will find more info about their professional achievements, but the bottom line is this: this will be a fun night and sweet music. Hope you can join us. No door charge, we will have a love offering to help them with their expenses.

A pair of lovebirds, experts say, are characterized by two traits: They share a strong bond and they typically spend a lot of time side by side. Although Chris and Jan are short on feathers, they are indeed love birds. To celebrate 30 years of marriage they plan to sing through the rest of their lives as The Two Birds in Love.

Chris is a noted award-winning producer, songwriter and vocalist who has worked with a long list of very well known artists including Stevie Ray Vaughn, Amy Grant, Asleep at the Wheel, Clint Black, CeCe Winans, Loretta Lynn, Aaron Neville, Dolly Parton and even The Chipmunks.

Jan was in Amy Grant’s first band as a back-up singer and has provided vocals for numerous demos, jingles, albums and live events. “We figured 30 years ought to be worth something,” muses Chris of the idea of putting together an evening of songs and stories. “We think that anything that was good for June and Johnny (Cash) is good enough for us.”

Through laughter and tears the evening explores the ups and downs of marriage and the richness that results from riding the roller coaster together. “We will draw on some original songs with titles such as ‘The Honey-Do List’, ‘I Like What You’ve Done To Your Hair’ and “I Didn’t Have To Die To See An Angel’. Also, we both love romantic love songs with big beautiful melodies.” Jan’s love leans towards songs of the 1930s and 1940s, while Chris has an encyclopedic knowledge of pop country, rock and soul music dating back to the 1950s.

“We just want to talk and sing about life together. We hope to light a fire in the relationships of people who hear us, whether that comes from how Chris and I interact, a song or a story,” says Jan. So they move forward strongly bonded, side by side. Just what you might expect from two birds in love. They can be reached at thetwobirdsinlove@gmail.com.

You can find them on Facebook as well.
