Jesus makes clear that the Lord’s Prayer is not just a private, personal invitation to speak with the Father in prayer. This is a community prayer. Notice the emphasized pronouns below as you say the prayer:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.
For yours is the kingdom and the power
and the glory forever. Amen.
Becoming followers of Jesus means following Him with others in community. The key is place you in community, because without you, it’s just not complete — it’s commnity. My creative ministry team partner, Stephen Corbett, has come up with another creative way to say this in a video. The point is simple: to belong, you have to come together with other folks to be a part of community. Hope you enjoy!
