Busy but Hectic Week

without comments

This has been a whirlwind week.

Monday and Tuesday were crammed with many activities as I tried to get away for a long trip.

Wednesday was a wild trip that saw me leave Abilene early to try to get to Pepperdine and Malibu for the Howard Books luncheon where I was to speak. Much to my surprise, they presented me with a special award for my ten years of ministry with Heartlight before I spoke — wow, a total suprise and honor.

Thursday and Friday were great days at Pepperdine. Seeing friends from all over the country was great and hearing some fantastic sermons. I also taught two classes on Heartlight reasources. It was a great three days in Malibu. To top it all off, What Jesus Did: John, the book version of my daily devotional was released. We’ll be letting our Heartlight family how to get the books, but this was a nice blessing to have come to fruition.

The worship was especially meaningful on Friday night as good friend Ken Young led the worship with Hallal. He spotted Jonathan Ross, a precious young man who was our worship leader the last two years before he left to be full time worship leader at Bammel Road in Houston. Ken had Jonathan join the worship team on stage, so I sat with Jennifer, his wife during the worship. Jonathan and Jennifer are expecting their first baby, Jedediah, in the next month or so. They are so precious to Donna and I. It was a special night!

I got up early Saturday, caught the shuttle to the aiport and flew to Portland. Donna had left Abilene early and we met at the Portland airport. We’re spending some time with our mission church plant, Living Streams, in Portland. Today, Sunday, we’ve spent the day with the folks at Living Streams. I preached this morning, we went to lunch with one fellowship group, and then Donna attended the women’s fellowship group this afternoon while I had a good visit with Ken, the Living Streams minister.

It’s been a whirlwind week, but now that another Sunday come and gone, I thank God for the breadth, the depth, and the richness of His Kingdom. No matter where I’ve traveled all around the world, there is an instant connection with God’s people. Language, culture, and age cannot block that connection. What a blessing!
